Designer Profile: J+G Design

What happens when you combine a Viyet insider with New York’s rising stars of design? SVP of Marketing Tamara Rosenthal was finally ready for the gut renovation she had been planning for her Manhattan apartment (think: wall-to-wall red carpet). Enter Jennifer Hunter and Georgie Hambright of J+G Design, who expertly mixed new pieces with unique finds from Viyet- from the organic wood console in the living room to the punchy artwork in the breakfast nook- for a collected, authentic look.

What was the overall style/vibe you were going for?
We wanted it to be equal parts eclectic and vintage. The client is a fun young family and we wanted the space to reflect that. Mixing new pieces as well as pieces from Viyet makes the space feel collected and authentic. We wanted guests to walk in and say this is so you!

Specifically, what can you tell us about the living room area? How did that space come to life?
The client wanted it to be sophisticated enough for adults but also kid friendly. It serves as the main living space so it needed to be beautiful as well as comfortable.

We breathed new life into the client’s existing pieces by reupholstering them in modern performance fabrics. The vintage 70s club chairs on casters came from the client’s parent’s home. They have such a cool shape to them and the plum velvet totally transformed them. It’s nice when you can incorporate pieces that have history and meaning to the client- now they get to share them with their kids!

Dividing the living room into 2 separate seating areas maximizes the space and creates a cozy window nook. We just love the pair of high-back lounge chairs we found on Viyet. They have a fun vintage vibe and are comfortable reading chairs.

An organic wood console from Viyet is a beautiful way to designate the living and dining areas. Layering different textures and materials adds depth to a space.

What is your favorite part (or room) of the project?
Our favorite room is the breakfast nook! We just love how the banquette maximizes the small space and creates a fun place for the kids to hang out. We used faux leather on the seat and laminated the fabric on the back so that it’s completely kid proof. Artwork from Viyet really adds a colorful punch!
