Share a little bit about why you love Alexandra Tremaine’s work? In what kind of space do you envision her photographs?
We love Alexandra Tremaine’s artistic eye and ability to create such beautiful unique photographs. We envision her photographs in any light colored/muted space to help liven it up and add some color and playful personality.
What inspired this career path for you?
Shannon’s father is an architect, so her interest in design started at a young age. Brittany was always interested in art and creative things growing up. Her parents were always remodeling their house, and she paid close attention to the details and the process. Brittany, then decided to study architecture for her undergrad degree. The unique backgrounds of both Shannon and Brittany have inspired them get into Interior Design.
What is your go-to source for inspiration?
When we have time, we like to indulge in skimming through magazines for inspirations such as Architectural Digest, C Home and Elle Decor. Our other go-to sources for inspiration are Pinterest and Instagram.
Tell us about your creative process.
For our creative process, we start off by getting an idea of a client’s needs and wants for their space. Next, we source the inspiration behind our design, which we present to a client. Based on functionality and what he/she is drawn to, we build the design from there.
Describe your style in 6 words or less.
Fresh, clean-lines, refined, natural, approachable and surprising.
What’s a staple in your toolkit?
A staple in our toolkit is a measuring tape, it is a major must have on hand for every site visit!
Who do you look up to in the design world?
We look up to Ilse Crawford, we look to her work for design inspiration on creating a comfortable space with the senses in mind. We also look up to Commune and Apparatus.
If you could design a space for anyone, what kind of space and for whom would it be?
If we could design a space for anyone, we would design a mountain home or ski chalet. We feel that kind of home would be fun to design because it is outside of our usual client requests. We would design this ski chalet for Brad Pitt (for obvious reasons)!
Tell us your favorite design related word, phrase, or quote. Which design blog, website, TV show, or magazine would you be lost without?
Our favorite design-related word is juxtaposition. We use that work a lot while designing because we try to consistently juxtapose different elements in our designs, mixing refined and approachable.
What do you love about Viyet?
We recently had a great experience working with Viyet to help a client of ours consign amazing vintage pieces that they had at their Manhattan apartment, that no longer worked in their California home. We love Viyet because it made the process very streamlined and our client was happy with the service she was given.
