Massucco Warner Miller blends color and textural palettes that range from bold, stunning, and edgy, to soft, tranquil, and serene. Their love of all things design varies as much as their styles, but the result is a beautiful, well-designed home, and a happy client, every time.
What inspired this career path for you?
Love of all things beautiful, and being extremely detail oriented. (Some may call it OCD, we just like to think we’re into all the details.)
What is your go-to source for inspiration?
Travel and history! We’d be lost without the ability to roam, both near and far, because we are able to soak in various styles of architecture, the way people dress, or the way light affects color depending on what ocean you may be near. We consider travel an essential part of our lives in order to ignite new sparks of creativity! Historical buildings are always another beautiful inspiration — whether it’s the intricate moldings, how the window mullions are laid out, or a great marble floor — we file little bits of information in our brain that later inspires a client’s powder bath, or master bedroom, or living room.
Tell us about your creative process.
We pretty much have a go-to method. After getting to know our client, seeing the space (or studying the plans if the house is a new construction), we lay out the rooms, then we scheme by pulling inspiration fabrics or sometimes a rug to build the room around. We may have a certain pattern we build on, or just a color palette we’ve been dying to use. We love to make a huge mess with fabrics all over each of our offices (Seattle and Los Angeles), look at our schemes over the course of a few days, make tweaks as the light changes, then once we feel really solid with the schemes, we present to our client!
Describe your style in 6 words or less.
Stylish, happy, tailored, patterned, comfortable, chic
What’s a staple in your toolkit?
iPhone and a 25’ tape measure — the yellow heavy duty contractor kind.
Who do you look up to in the design world?
David Hicks, Frances Elkins, Dorothy Draper
If you could design a space for anyone, what kind of space and for whom would it be?
We both dream of the day when we’ll design family homes for our children and their family! (Long ways off, but so fun to think about — and hopefully their future spouses will not mind a mother-in-law’s input!)
Tell us your favorite design-related word, phrase, or quote.
Always measure twice and cut once.
Which design blog, website, TV show, or magazine would you be lost without?
House Beautiful! (But really all of the shelter magazines that are still available at the newsstand — there’s nothing better than getting our hands on a new issue and spending an hour just going page by page.)
What do you love about Viyet?
The thrill of the hunt! We don’t always have time to visit vintage stores or estate sales when we travel (or even when we are home), so being able to do so virtually while on the comfort of our sofas is great.
