Designer Profile: Gen Sohr of Pencil and Paper Co.

The work of Nashville duo Gen and Benjamin Sohr is the kind that sparks a conversation and a smile. It’s bold, lively, family-friendly, and most of all, it’s fun. Saturated hues, playful patterns, and graphic art (lots of it!) mean there’s never a dull moment for the couple, or their clients. Their pretty-yet-practical spaces have caught the attention of clients like Reese Witherspoon, proving two heads are indeed better than one.

What inspired this career path for you?
After many years developing retail concepts with Gap Inc., Limited Brands, and The Body Shop, we moved to Nashville to spend more time with family. We began designing, renovating, and decorating our own homes… After several magazine features, people began to knock on our door for design help. We were really fortunate to be able to take what we are both passionate about (interiors, architecture, marketing, and branding) and turn it into what we get to do each day at Pencil and Paper Co.

What is your go-to source for inspiration?
Travel

Tell us about your creative process.
We believe design is a “creative puzzle”… You just keep moving the pieces around until it feels right.
