How To Update Any Room With Fabric

Above, throw pillows in a variety of prints prove how luxe fabric can make a difference. Design by Bella Mancini.

Perhaps you need to reupholster that favorite chair or sofa in a fresh new color. Or, maybe you have been unable to find the drapes or sofa pillows in the right pattern to complement your existing decor. When it comes to making any piece look unique and tailor-made, all you need is the right fabric. To spotlight our new collection of textiles, we’ve selected a few of our favorite fabrics, along with ideas on how to integrate them into your decor.

For Pillows

The Vintage Brass-Plated Framed Sofa curated by Jonathan Rachman Design, is striking with its brass-plated frame. Add a pop of complementary color in pillows placed on its neutral ecru upholstery. The Holland & Sherry Tangerine Linen fabric makes the brass come alive when the tangerine pillow is placed against it. Its nubby texture softens the look of the metal.

For Chairs

The quickest way to change the look of your dining room is by changing the seat covers. This is something that you could do yourself in minutes (simply remove the seat, smooth over the new fabric, then fasten underneath using a heavy-duty stapler), or can be done through a reupholstery specialist. Just imagine how stylish the B Mori & Co. Solid Walnut Dining Side Chairs would look with the Tomato Neruda fabric by Donghia. The geometric motif would lend modern contrast to the chairs’ more traditional carved details.

For Window Treatments

If your windows have wood blinds, you can soften the look with just a valance. But if you want a more polished look, think about adding a roman shade or, of course, drapes. The classic pattern of Holland and Sherry’s Natural Linen Houndstooth would work well in both traditional and contemporary designed rooms. If you are looking for a charming pattern for a guest or child’s room, look no further than Donghia’s Menthe Green Go Fish which features hand-appliqued fish that swim across the hand-woven cotton background.

For Headboards

Want a summery look for your bedroom? Cover your headboard with a yellow fabric, such as Holland & Sherry’s Pale Yellow Linen. You could make a simple cover with ties on the side or have it reupholstered. Cover your summer duvet with the Holland & Sherry Yellow and White Stripe Cotton. This lovely design complements the other fabric, giving the room a finished look.
