How the “Masculine” Style Can Work In Any Room

Above, Will Wick combines rich wood grains, dark colors, and leather accents for a handsome look.

The phrase “masculine style” immediately brings to mind a few design cliches: Rooms filled completely with leather furniture, man caves, and spaces where the television dominates, just to name a few. But this style isn’t always so literal, or limiting. Sometimes a room just needs a masculine element to stop it from looking a little too frou-frou. Or, perhaps you lean toward a more tailored decorating style to begin with and need to bring some warmth into the mix. There are varying elements of masculine style, such as darker woods, a mix of woods, leather, nubby fabrics, smooth textures (think brass and chrome), stripes, and straight lines. Below are a few of our favorite pieces for adding a masculine aesthetic to an interior:

A classic bar cart: Henredon Leather Inlaid Bar Cart

Masculine Bar Cart

Designed by Celerie Kemble, this bar cart is a splendid example of an upscale look with warm tones, brass accents, and three glass shelves. It’s a wonderful way to display those crystal or leather decanters.

A clean-lined side table: Henredon Wood Side Table

A crisp silhouette shifts the focus to the unique textures and finishes of this stylish table, which was designed by Jeffrey Alan Marks. With its cream-white leather pedestal and two-toned top, this impressive piece would work in both traditional as well as contemporary rooms.

A leather chair: Designlush Cigar Lounge Chair

Yes, it is one of the masculine decor cliches, but it’s one that never goes out of style. This handsome choice is upholstered in a sophisticated brown antiqued/distressed-look leather, which is complemented by the espresso stained wood legs.

A textured rug: Designlush Modern Wool Link Rug

In shades of blue and grey, this rug has that chunky texture that is inviting and eye-catching. This wool-blend rug would work well in both the living room or the bedroom.

A touch of metal: Curtis Jere “Cityscape Chrome and Brass Wall Sculpture”

Masculine Style Curtis Jere

Curated by Will Wick, this classic Curtis Jere piece has the masculine elements of chrome and brass in a sophisticated design.

A glimpse of wood grain: Julian Chichester Banana Desk

This luxurious desk features grey oak and is topped in black vellum. It has a curved cupboard with two large shelves and four drawers on the other side, making it the ideal anchor in a study, home library, or office.
