What inspired this career path for you? My Barbie Dolls. As a kid, I spent hours laying out giant floor plans and furniture arrangements for them, usually as a built-on addition to the Barbie Dream House, as chic as it was. I was unconcerned with actually playing with them in these houses, but just loved constantly redoing them.

What is your go-to source for inspiration? I love vintage books and magazines. It gives me a nice starting-off point and hopefully keeps things trend-free. I love reinventing things from the past and translating them into the present. I feel if it still looks good from today’s point of view, it’s probably going to have longevity. I also love foreign shelter magazines to get a perspective that’s a little further away from Los Angeles.

Tell us about your creative process. First, I want to know as much as I can about a client/home/restaurant concept.  Then, it’s looking at as many places as possible for inspiration: books, magazines, art, and museums. I like spaces to be a unique reflection of the client and/or experience.

Describe your style in 6 words or less. It’s impossible to answer without sounding self-absorbed. Hopefully timeless, unpredictable, and authentic.

What are the biggest trends you see in interior design right now and what are you loving (and not loving)? I feel like everything is a trend these days with the Internet. It’s so easy to find several examples of the same thing when you’re online.

What’s a staple in your tool kit? Pinterest – I’m a late Pinterest adapter, but now I’m it’s biggest fan. It’s the best way to save images/products and ideas, and organize by project.

Who do you look up to in the design world? Eileen Gray and Charlotte Perriand: two extremely talented women who flourished in the male-dominated architecture/design world of their time.

If you could design a space for anyone, what kind of space and for whom would it be? I don’t know who it is for, but it’s a boutique hotel on an island somewhere and I need to be there for 6 months…

Tell us your favorite design-related word, phrase, or quote. “All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Which design blog, website, TV show, or magazine would you be lost without? I’m a big fan of Remodelista

What do you love about Viyet? Overall, Viyet is a genius idea. It’s such an easy way to find great quality pieces quickly. I also love that I finally have a place to sell items that my clients no longer need, but are still in great condition.
