Spotlight On: Stylish Office Spaces

The phrase “office space” either brings to mind the 1999 movie, or a mental image of a dull and dreary cubicle farm. (Or both, really.) When you think about it, your work space is where you’ll be spending most of your day — shouldn’t it be a little less depressing? If you’re lucky enough to have a private office, it’s time to say goodbye to at least some of those corporate standard pieces with their faux veneers and uncomfortable cushions. For the rest of us, there are so many ways to add life-enhancing flourishes through accessories and lighting. Even the tiniest glimpse of a stylish piece can make a difference in your day. Of course, there’s also the challenge of decorating a home office, which can easily feel like its corporate cousin if you’re not careful.

Instead, we believe that any office should be a space that encourages creativity, instead of crushing your soul. We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite office designs, along with a few selections from our recent arrivals that’ll encourage productivity in style.

BeverlyHills72-900x632

The designers: Maine Design

The project: A private Beverly Hills home

Why we love it: That incredible mirror-and-glass table puts a glamorous spin on the traditional sawhorse-style desk.

The designer: Sam Allen

The project: Sam Allen’s private residence in Connecticut (featured in House Beautiful!)

Why we love it: The intense green hue is unexpectedly chic, especially when combined with sleek white furniture and bright orange accessories, and gives this small nook a big personality.

Christopher Kennedy Study

The designer: Christopher Kennedy

The project: Thunderbird Heights family home

Why we love it: The large-scale pattern on the statement wall harmonizes the different proportions of the low credenza, grand table lamps, and art.

MW-Greenbay-GA

The designer: Megan Winters

The project: A private home in Green Bay, Wisconsin

Why we love it: The wall-sized message board almost functions as a piece of art, bringing color and pattern to the corner. The striped fabric also ties in the pink accents in the dramatically dark space.

KapitoMuller Collage

The designers: Kapito Muller

The project: Upper East Side office

Why we love it: The warm palette of the rich wood furniture and the brown wall work harmoniously to create a cozy atmosphere.
