Rhobin DelaCruz is committed to turning his design concepts into well rounded, real living environments utilizing color to create vibrancy, balance, and rhythm. He launched his design company five years ago as a one man operation which has evolved into a successful bicoastal, multi-designer team. Whenever possible, the Viyet team loves to sit with designers, and to hear about what makes them tick. We couldn’t have been more thrilled when Rhobin carved out a few moments to connect with us.

What are your go-to sources for inspiration? I’m addicted to Houzz and Instagram. There are so many talented artist and DIYers out there with a designer’s eye.

What are some of your favorite materials and/or textures to work with? Recently I find myself gravitating towards linens. I’m also a sucker for wallpaper and 3D textural wall applications.

What are the biggest trends in interior design you are seeing right now? 60s mod and pops of orange and navy. Wood is everywhere right now, too. I see lots of reclaimed wood and wall installations.

What design rule do you love to break? Client’s tend be weary about mixing metals, which I love to do, but when they see the final result their “matchy-matchy” rule goes right out the window.

Tell us about a recent project. What design direction did you take, and what were your inspirations? A recent project my team just completed was a psychotherapist’s office. The big challenge was to make this small, outdated space more modern while keeping a warm and positive environment for the patients. The starting point was the wallpaper.  At first glance, the geometric pattern came off as a little to bold for the setting but we balanced it out with dark grays, heavy metals and natural woods.

Sum up your design style in 6 words or less.

Vibrant, funky, bold, youthful, approachable, and eclectic.

Which design blog, website, TV or magazine would you be lost without? I would definitely be lost without Houzz. HGTV magazine, Dwell, and New York Spaces are some of my favorite magazines.  Homepolish’s instagram and web magazine is fantastic.

And we’d be remiss if we didn’t ask – what are your three favorite Viyet pices? While Viyet’s inventory is constantly evolving, my favorite current pieces are the Barclay Butera High-back chair, the Desiron Credenza, and the classic Barcelona couch.
